Meat Guide

Not many people the difference between various types of steaks. Why, there's the Porterhouse, T-Bone, Filet Mignon, Filet of Prime Rib, Top Sirloin, and others. Each kind of steak offers a different type of meat and, of course, a different kind of taste. Let's examine the difference in characteristics between the varying meats by starting off with the American classic T-Bone.

T-Bone
The T-Bone clearly gets in name from its T-shaped figure. The core of this steak is that it is two kinds of meat in one. Generally, the T-Bone is a Boneless Sirloin that also has the traits of a filet, making it softer than a regular Boneless. It's ideal for people who like both the Boneless Sirloin and Filet Mignon, as it doesn't sacrifice its appetizing punch for its filet texture.

Porterhouse
The Porterhouse is similar to the T-Bone steak, as it also features two kinds of steak meat: a New York Strip and Filet Mignon. The Porterhouse is typically the largest of steaks, so it'll surely cure the hungriest of steak cravers with one serving. Moving on, the Filet of Prime Rib is a mixture of a traditional steak with the tantalizing taste of a Prime Rib.

Sirloin
Then there is the Sirloin. It gets its name as it is the meat from the loins of the animal. If done right, the Sirloin is the top choice for steak lovers, as it features the perfect blend of exterior fat trims to give it a flavor and texture unlike any other type of steak. There is a variation of the Sirloin called the Boneless Strip Sirloin Steak. The Boneless Strip Sirloin offers additional trims of fat on the exterior, but also additional flavor and size.

Filet Mignon
The Filet Mignon is the golden standard of steaks, the unanimous favorite. It is the softest of the steaks, as it nearly melts in your mouth and doesn't require hard chewing. The Filet Mignon is from the tenderloin part, and it is commonly the smallest, though most expensive, steak you can order. Additionally, brands like Omaha Steaks offer Triple Trimmed Filets that have all of the exterior fat removed, which makes it ideal for someone on a certain diet.
